We are looking forward to invite more than 300 young professionals from Europe and beyond who are interested in investigating different notions, expectations and realities of war and peace. We call for people with diverse perspectives, backgrounds and identities who are eager to share their knowledge and ideas of remembrance and utopia.
If you are interested in the revelation and examination of historical contrasts and constructs, we want you to participate. The application is open for everyone aged 18-30 years with a strong interest or professional background in history education, remembrance work, public or urban history, peace and conflict studies, arts or related subjects.

If we aroused your interest, please consider the following before applying:

• Registration for taking part in the festival is only possible by filling out the online registration form.
• Registration is possible until July 15th, 2018. Please note that registration is now closed.
• The registration does not guarantee participation. Participants will be selected based on the information they submitted.
• Applicants will be informed about the success of their application three months before the festival at the latest.
• Our festival language is English. Therefore, we can only consider applications written in proper English.
• To apply, you will have to provide personal and professional information about yourself, identification details, your preferred workshops and your genuine motivation for participation (maximum 1.500 characters).
• All information provided in the form has to be true and complete. Personal details have to be stated exactly as in your identification documents.

Travel Allowance

We are looking forward to welcoming you to Berlin for five enthralling days. To enable highly motivated people from diverse backgrounds to participate, we provide travel allowance as reimbursement for your expenses. Please be aware that we cannot reimburse any expenses that exceed the allowance for the respective country of residence. Travel bookings, reservations, insurances and visa applications are to be cared for individually by the participants. Please Book Only After Having Been Accepted!

In order to minimise travel costs we recommend booking early but only after you have officially been accepted as a participant to the festival.

VISA Checklist

For those of you who have to apply for a VISA we have put together a checklist.

Public Transportation in Berlin

In Berlin, you will be provided with a detailed map and public transport tickets to be able to get back and forth between festival venues and the hostel.

We will provide accommodation during the festival (17/10/18 – 21/10/18) at the One80° Hostel Alexanderplatz, if requested so in your registration form. Located at a vibrant meeting spot of the city, it is close to all venues of the festival.

Please note:

• You will be accommodated in gender-segregated dorms (4-6 people).
• An extension of the stay or alternative accommodation is only possible by private booking and payment of costs by the participant.

War or Peace takes place in the centre of Berlin – surrounded by various sites that mark crossroads of history. The venues of our festival – Maxim Gorki Theatre as the festival centre, Palais am Festungsgraben, and the Quadriga Berlin – are exciting spots of history, art and discourse.

Built in 1827 as the city’s first concert hall, the Maxim Gorki Theatre is probably the most impressive among the ensemble theatres in Berlin where it is located at the famous boulevard “Unter den Linden”. Since its reopening in 1952, it has played an important and critical role in public discourse and has focused mainly on political critique – reflecting the diversified society in times of continuous economic and political crises and heightened social and cultural conflicts.During our festival, it will host the artistic programme as well as the opening and closing ceremony. The theatre‘s courtyard will also be the central meeting point, where you can have a break, get food and drinks, socialise and relax.

The Palais am Festungsgraben, right next to the Maxim Gorki Theatre, is one of our two workshop venues where we will also set up special meeting points for side activities in the programme. It was built at the outskirts of the former town fortification, right at the moat (“Festungsgraben”), in 1751. Looking back on a busy history of regular modifications and extensions, the building is under monumental protection and nowadays a cultural hotspot.

Our second workshop site is the Quadriga Forum – a state of the art conference centre right at the heart of Friedrichswerder, the historic quarter between Friedrichstraße, “Unter den Linden” and Spittelmarkt. While providing ideal conditions for in-depth workshops, it is only a short footwalk from the festival centre.
